Best Breakfast Burrito

Raise your hand if breakfast food is your favorite!

Me: *raises hand*

The best part about breakfast food is that it’s good ANY time of day. We actually ate these for dinner, but who doesn’t love a good breakfast burrito?!

I must confess, the inspiration for this meal is not my own. Michael asked me to make these after having the most incredible burrito from Onefold. If you’re in Denver—get yourself over there ASAP. They use duck fat as their main cooking oil, and let me tell you it’s a game-changer.

So let’s get to the goods.

More Than Core Workout

When you google “core workout” you’ll find titles such as “IRONCLAD ABS” and “Tighten and Tone!” and “Total Ab Blast”. If that’s what you’re looking for, please go to the Googles.

Today I’m sharing a workout that doesn’t just isolate your abs, because your core is so much more than that! It includes your shoulders, scapula, abdominals, obliques, erectors, glutes, hip flexors, adductors and more! I hate to break it to you, but isolating the abs will not give you a strong core. Try these movements to build your WHOLE core, not just your abs.

The "Too Busy" Myth

I’ve said it. You’ve said it. We allllllll say it on the regs. “I’m just too busy for ____________ right now.” While I do believe that being busy is real thing, I don’t see it as an excuse to not do something you really want to do. Because if you REALLY wanted something, you wouldn’t be too busy for it. And trust me, I’m not throwing shade at you. Let me use myself as the prime example. For the past month, I haven’t written a single blog, posted on Instagram, or written to my email list once. When my family would ask what I’ve been up to, I’d just respond and say something super dramatic like, “Ohhhh well I’ve just been soooo bizzyyyy working on the house!”

5 Lessons Learned from My Dog

If you think I’m writing this as an excuse to post pictures of my dog… you’re right.

So let’s get one thing straight right away. Dogs > than humans.

Kota is the best “person” I know. Michael and I honestly don’t deserve her, she’s way too good for us. But I want to share a few lessons she’s taught me, and why I want to be more like her. You can eye roll allllll you want, but if you’re a dog person, you get it!

Paleo Korean Beef Bowls

If you know how I do, the name of the game is quick ‘n easy. And this meal is no exception.

Asian inspired dishes are my absolute FAVORITE type of meals. And while I won’t pretend this is an authentic Asian dish, it is mighty delicious. So delicious, in fact, that my whole family asked for the recipe to which I responded, “You can have it when I write the blog”. I sort of eyeballed it the first time, so I had to remake it to get more precise measurements.

So here you go, fam.

Are Supplements a Waste of Money?

Being healthy is soooo in right now. So hip, in fact, that if you DON’T take at least 4 supplements daily, you’re probably not sitting at the cool kids table if you know what I mean. But do we really need them? Are they actually effective? Or are they a big ole waste of your hard earned money? Here are 4 ways to know if your supplements are worth it. Quality. Do you know anything about the sourcing of your supplement? Is it a reputable brand? And just because it’s a big name brand, doesn’t mean it’s a good one. It’s ridiculous, but there are hardly ANY regulations on supplements. Companies can say just about anything they want and put it on the label, true or not. If the quality is poor, your body isn’t going to absorb it anyway. So it’s really important to do your research. More on that later.

Is Anti Aging Skincare Safe?

Like anything else you put on your body, skincare is absorbed insanely quickly and goes directly into the bloodstream. Making it very important to know that what you’re putting on yourself is safe. But what separates anti aging from any other skincare? Retinol. The use of this ingredient is very controversial in the beauty world. It’s the active ingredient in almost ALL anti aging products. But should it be so widely used? The reason retinol is so “effective” is because it pushes new cells up to the surface more quickly than they normally would, giving quicker “results”. The problem is, these skin cells aren’t ready to be exposed to sunlight and other environmental factors yet. They’re too young and immature (hello, college Lexie). So sun damage and skin irritation are a big concern.

3 Reasons You Don't Like Body Changes

You’re probably reading this blog because your body has changed at some point in your life. Well, I have good news for you. CONGRATULATIONS! You’re alive!!! As long as you’re alive, your body will continue to change. For better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, till death do you part. And, much like a marriage, your body will be with you forever, so you want to treat it right, right? But that doesn’t mean you will be wearing the same jeans you did in high school. Treating your body like you did in high school probably wouldn’t end well. Just a guess.

Honey Seared Steak

Did you know I worked at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse all throughout college? It’s true. I was a hostess and then a server for about 4 years. And while there are many things I didn’t enjoy about food service, there were some positives to working there. And by far, the most valuable thing that happened during my time there? Learning to love undercooked steak. I used to be a solid medium-well kinda gal. But they converted me to a medium-rare chick. Every time I eat a steak, I’m grateful that I’m enlightened about the superiority of a dark red center. Anyways, enough about me. Here’s the recipe.

Is Sugar is the Root of Your Health Issues?

I think most people are aware of the negative effects sugar can have on the body.

We talk about the sugar rush kids get at a birthday party, or the sugar crash that inevitably occurs later that day causing epic meltdowns. We talk about how we’re addicted to dessert and that our sweet tooth is giving us cavities.

We know it’s not good for us. But do we really know why?

Blood sugar dysregulation affects literally every system in the body. Before we get into the details, let’s talk about what sugar is.

Sun's Out Guns Out

If you’re looking for a fun little upper body pump, you’re in the right place.

No, you’re not going to be carrying your dog for this workout, but you could certainly count that or carrying your kids around as an arm workout.

I’m not big into isolating one part of the body, because that can lead to imbalances in other parts of the body. But if you’re alternating upper and lower body, and incorporating the core into your workouts, you should be good to go.

For this workout, you’ll either need dumbbells or a resistance band.

Self Care Vs. Selfishness

Ooooooh buddy do we have a hot topic for you TODAY! #selfcaresunday is all the rage right now. And while it seems “cool” to self care, I can still feel a permeating attitude of superiority from those who “don’t have time” or “are too busy” to care for themselves. So I want to get into what exactly self care is, and how to differentiate it from selfishness. Let me just start by saying this… there is a fine line here, and I don’t know the answer. But I’m going to share my perspective, and if it doesn’t align with what you believe, you can take it or leave it. What do you think of when you hear self care? A pedicure? Face mask? Girls day? I don’t think any of those are wrong, but I’d like to expand what our view of self care is, aside from the super girly things we all tend to think about. I believe self care is not a day of the week, but small choices that we make every single day in order to care for our well being.

Sunscreen: Helping or Hurting?

Is Sun Exposure Bad? We’ve been led to believe that the sun is bad. It causes cancer. Cover yourself in SPF 250 if you want to live. I CAN NOT overstate the importance of Vitamin D in your body. So I’ll let someone smarter than me tell you. Dr. Sarah Ballantyne says, “Vitamin D is a steroid hormone that controls expression of more than 200 genes and the proteins those genes regulate. It is made by specialized skin cells when they are activated by exposure to UVB radiation. After it’s synthesized in the skin, the inactive form of vitamin D must travel to the liver, where it’s further modified, and then is activated by the kidneys. From here, vitamin D can work its magic all over the body.

Do You Even Leg Day?

There’s not much that I enjoy more than heavy squatting.

However, not everyone has access to a squat rack, barbell, and plates. And there’s a plethora of garbage out there about working out your legs. Truth is, there’s plenty of ways to do it. You don’t HAVE to lift super heavy weights to build leg strength.

Here’s a leg workout you can do at home without any equipment.

The Reason You're So Tired

The title is a little misleading. Of course I can’t know the exact reason why you’re so tired without even talking to you. But I can name a few reasons why almost everyone I work with is tired. Which probably applies to you if you’re a human.

You are? Great. Shall we?

Everything on this list may not apply to you, but I bet almost everyone can name AT LEAST one thing on this list they relate to.

Negative Self Talk: It’s Not Just About You

Our culture is very adamant that you must not make much of yourself. You must downplay your accomplishments, brains, humor, style, and everything else about you. Because if you don’t, you might be… ARROGANT *gasp*. And while arrogance is not a pleasant quality in a person, I think that we swing the pendulum way too far in the other direction. Instead of being proud of an accomplishment we’ve made, we quickly brush it off as if it’s nothing. Or if a friend compliments our new outfit, we roll our eyes and say, “I feel like I can’t pull it off”.
